Summer & Autumn
White Water Rafting
White water rafting and canoeing on the Rivers Giffre or Drance is very exciting with gorges and rapids, especially just after a good mountain storm. There are many operators in the valley who are equipped to take you on this kind of an expedition.
VTT / Mountain Biking
There are numerous mountain bike trails in the area, both for the very fit and those seeking the more gentle routes along the River Giffre. We have a selection of bikes at the Farm that are at your disposal. You are welcome to bring your own equipment. You can also hire bikes locally.
Walking
The whole area is a paradise for walkers and climbers; there are many marked trails of every length and difficulty. The famous GR5 route passes through Samoëns on to la Cascade du Rouget, then up to le lac d’Anterne and finally over the peak and down Le Brévent into Chamonix. It is impossible to exhaust all the possibilities.
For serious walkers there are a number of refuges. Take a rucksack, with a baguette, some garlicky pâté, local cheeses and a bottle of Savoyard sparkling wine (perhaps Corinne’s Papa’s) for a picnic with breathtaking views. For longer walks, it is possible to stay overnight in a manned refuge.
Horse-Riding & Fishing
Riding along Le Giffre is very enjoyable and you can ‘randonnées à cheval’ overnight to le Lac de Gers situated high in the mountains. The lakes and rivers offer superb fishing spots.
Parapenting
Parapenting is a daring way of seeing the mountains! It is fascinating to watch the brightly coloured parachutes floating in the thermals. You can take a course or descend with a professional instructor.
Ballooning
There is nothing more beautiful than seeing the sky covered with massive hot-air balloons taking in the sights of the magnificent French Alps. There are a number of local operators providing this service.
